Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at becoming popular were not successful. Two different record labels signed her and then removed her from the market before she'd recorded any songs. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which attracted a small amount of attention due to its jolly title. Perry became a bigger star several months later with the single "I Kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual desire backed by a sharp electro-pop beat. This song sparked controversy, with some critics accusing that it promoted homosexual relationships, and some asserting that the explicit sexual situation depicted in the song was intended to appeal to the sexual fantasies of males. The combination of excitement, a polished tune and a catchy tune helped it become a top-ten hit across a range of countries. The result was the album The One of the Boys (2007) which was a huge success. Hot N Cold is a well-known second track. Perry also wrote a large portion of the lyrics on the album.
